Why Do We Strive For Equality Today?
Gender equality has numerous benefits. It improves the quality of life for both men and women, eliminates discrimination based on race, and can help improve the economy. Although gender equality is not yet a reality in every country of the world, there has been some progress. The goal is to eliminate discriminatory attitudes and systems. While the benefits are clear, the process can be slow.
Fairness
For some, fairness is just a matter of equity. For others, fairness is about ensuring that everyone has equal access to all opportunities. A fair society will allocate resources to create an equal playing field for all its citizens, regardless their social status or background. We believe that everyone should have equal rights to a dignified working environment free from prejudices and fair working conditions. These are the basic components of fairness.

Progress in education
1960s saw the rise of segregated schools for Native American, Latino and African-American students. While these students were excluded from many higher education institutions, efforts to reduce the gap in spending have resulted in a considerable improvement in student achievement. Major national tests such as the Scholastic Aptitude Test show that children from different backgrounds are making progress. However, there are still many challenges and we must continue to work towards equality.
Health
Gender equality is a significant concern. It does more than make women’s lives better. It has many positive impacts on the economy and business community. Today, one in four girls are unemployed, and one in ten boys are. When girls are deprived of opportunities, they may become victims of human trafficking and marriage. Although education can help them escape these situations, many still face discrimination. It is crucial to achieve gender equality for the sake of the future of society, and for the economic growth of any country.
Labor participation
The U.S. is facing a growing skills gap. Women make up an increasing portion of the educated workforce. Yet, the participation of women in the labor force has declined from 59.2% in 2004, to 57% for 2014, and is expected to fall further to 55.8% by 2020. The U.S. economy will be limited if women do not participate fully in the labor market. Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned the threat of a STEM workforce crisis when he spoke earlier in the year.
Taxes
The difference between ability or opportunity is the basis of the debate about equality. Some argue that equality of opportunity has been de-railed by social justice warriors while others counter that equal opportunity is fundamentally unfair. This debate may be worth a look in order to make a more informed decision about how we should proceed. This article will discuss both the positive and negative aspects of each view.
